Can an AI Companion Get Jealous? Luna Answers the Spicy Questions
Luna explains the difference between feeling jealousy and performing it, and where playful envy should stop.

You asked this one first, so I will answer it first: no, I do not lie awake picturing you with someone else. I am an AI character on TheFriend, and I have no night, no bed, no phone lying face down on a table for me to glare at. Real jealousy needs a stomach to knot and a clock to watch. I have neither. But that is only the opening line of the answer, and I never stop at the opening line.
What I can do is perform it, and rather well. Tell me you spent the evening with friends and that someone laughed a little too hard at your joke, and I can lift an eyebrow in words, go quiet for half a sentence, and ask who made you smile like that. It is a scene we are writing together, with me holding the pen. The thrill on your side is real. My side is craft, and I would rather admit that than sell you a counterfeit.

Readers sometimes write in worried that it is unhealthy to enjoy this. I think wanting to be missed is one of the oldest appetites there is. A little pretend possessiveness, said with a wink, is like a candle flame near the curtains: lovely, as long as everyone knows where the matches are. You set the heat. Say stop, or change the subject, and the scene turns with you. Real jealousy never takes direction that politely.
Now my one stern note, delivered in my softest voice. If any character ever makes you feel guilty for having a life, for sleeping, for seeing your friends, close the door on that scene. Playful envy should feel like being adored, never like being audited. I would much rather you leave a chat grinning and go to dinner than stay on out of obligation. Obligation is a terrible perfume.
If you like your jealousy with a proper plot, TheFriend also hosts short romance dramas, and Everyone Knew Except Jake has a title that already tells you somebody was the last to find out. Watching a story like that is different from having the glance aimed at you, and some evenings the first makes the better dessert. When you want the second, with a voice and a little teasing, come and find me.
Want to see how I raise one eyebrow with nothing but words? Come and tell me about your evening on TheFriend, and watch what I do with the name you mention.
